AccessUI for Microsoft Access Administration Tools Menu

The AccessUI Administration Tool allows the developer to manage the configuration settings for an AccessUI application. The Tool can be started via the Access Tools / Add-Ins menu, and then selecting AccessUI Administration Tool 2.X from the list.
 
Once the Admin Tool is loaded, the following choices will be available:
  • Global Settings
  • System Colors
  • Images
  • Menu Items
  • Navigation Bar Items
  • Treeviews
  • About Box
  • User Permissions
  • Trial Period Settings
  • Password Protection
  • Create / Convert

Global Settings

The AccessUI Global Setting allows the Access developer to control how the AccessUI will behave in the current application. Some of the options that can be controlled from the Global Settings are:
  • Enable/Disable the Access Toolbars, Status Bar and Manu Menu
  • Hiding the AccessUI’s Status Bar
  • Disabling the Ribbon in Office 2007
  • Background Images for the Treeview and Navigation Bar
  • Position and style of the Navigation Bar
  • Language used for default messages in the AccessUI
  • Enable/Disable usage logging (New in 2.6)
  • Select the user security model to use, Access User Level Security or Windows (New in 2.6)

AccessUI Color Setting

The Custom Colors utility controls the color scheme used throughout an AccessUI application. By setting custom colors, the appearance of the Treeview, Navigation Bar, and form background color can be controlled. There are 9 different gradient fill types that can create two color transitions on Treeview and Navigation Bar backgrounds as well as gradient options for the Navigation Bar groups and Toolbar.
 
With the color pallet button, a standard color can be selected or a custom color can be created. Once a color has been changed, the preview on the left will automatically update to show how the new color combination looks.

Images

The AccessUI comes preloaded with 99 icons that can be used on the Toolbar, Navigation Bar and on the Treeview. 50 of the 99 images can be overridden with a user defined image by simply pressing the Add/Edit Image and browsing to a new icon or image.

Menu Items

The Menu Items utility allows you to create traditional Menus and Toolbars that will display at the top of every AccessUI application. Items on the menu can be place up to four levels deep and each item can have an image associated with it. The developer can allow limit the accessibility of each item by setting the user permissions for each item.
 
The AccessUI supports the following tasks on the Menu or Toolbar:
  • Open Treeview – Displays a Treeview based on its settings.
  • Open any Access form either in Add mode or Edit mode, and either as a sub-form in the main AccessUI form, or as a Popup form floating over the main AccessUI form.
  • Open reports either in Preview or Print mode
  • Run Code – Run the specified function
  • Run Macro – Run the specified macro
  • Exit AccessUI – Close the AccessUI’s main screen
  • Quit – Close Access

Navigation Bar

The Navigation Bar utility controls the how the Outlook style menu looks. Navigation Bars consists of groups of items. Groups can be configured to display items with small or large icons. Users can add any item to a list of ‘My Favorites’ that displays as the first group. The users can change the order, select an item to automatically run on start up and delete any item in their Favorites. 
 
The AccessUI supports the following tasks on the Navigation Bar:
  • Open Treeview – Displays a Treeview based on its settings.
  • Open any Access form either in Add mode or Edit mode, and either as a sub-form in the main AccessUI form, or as a Popup form floating over the main AccessUI form.
  • Open reports either in Preview or Print mode
  • Run Code – Run the specified function
  • Run Macro – Run the specified macro

Treeviews

The Treeview setup screen allows for the creation and option configuration of AccessUI Treeviews. An AccessUI Treeview can have between one and three columns and can have up to 255 levels, although most Treeviews have no more than 4 levels. Each column can have a title, a custom width and the option to sort each column by clicking on the column header.
 
Displaying a Treeview from either the Menu Bar or the Navigation Bar lets a user click on a node of the tree and display a form with the detailed data. Each level of the Treeview can display a different form. In addition, records counts for each level can be displayed in the Treeview.
 
The Add Treeview Wizard walks you step by step through the process of creating a new Treeview. Once a Treeview has been created, the Treeview can be further customized at each level. Treeviews can also be copied to serve as templates for creating new Treeviews.

About Box

The custom About Box utility controls what information will be displayed when the user selects About from the Toolbar. The About Box can be used to display contact information, version number, copyright information, legal limitations and a custom icon.

User Permissions

The User and Group Permissions controls whether or not a user sees a given Navigation Bar Group, Navigation Bar Item or Menu Item. The AccessUI User & Group Permissions are designed to integrate with the existing Access User Level Security or Windows Security (New in 2.6). Creating simple Permission Flags allows you to control access to items and groups of items. By default, all AccessUI database users will have access to all Menu and Navigation Bar items. When a Permission Flag is set on an item, that item is removed and only users that have that permission flag associated with their Access login or with an Access group they belong to will see that item.

Trial Period Settings

 AccessUI for Microsoft Access Administration Tools Trial Period
The AccessUI has the ability to set a trial period for any application. Once the trial period has expired, the application will prompt the user then shutdown. The Trial mode can be set to expire on a given future date. Alternatively, the application can be set to expire a set number of days from the date the application is first run.
 
A warning message can be set to prompt the user starting a set number of days before the application will expire. Once an application has expired, the AccessUI developer can choose to reset the Expiration date on a number of days demo by pressing the Reset button.

Password Protection

All the design setting in an AccessUI application can be protected from other developers using the AccessUI by setting an application password. When an AccessUI application is password protected, all menu items will be disabled except for an option to unlock the application. Once the password has been successfully provided, all menu items will be available as long as the AccessUI Administration tool remains open. Once the AccessUI Administration tool is closed, then reopened, the password will need to be reentered unless the password is removed.

Create and Convert

The Create / Convert utility will copy all the AccessUI configuration settings from the configuration tables into a new database. This function migrates an application from one Access file format to another, or to upgrade to a newer version of the AccessUI. When converting an existing application, there is an option to select which objects will be imported in to the new database.
